According to producer Martin O'Collins filming Fireball of Christ was a constant battle with bureaucracy. 'Basically we wanted to settle the argument over the origins of the 'crater' in Sirente. Many experts believe the crater was caused by a meteorite - but the definitive proof can only be obtained by drilling in the lake. But the crater is in a Regional Park, and the Park authorities didn't want the scientists to drill. They were scared we'd drain the lake!'
With the whole film turning on the outcome of these discussions, the dedicated perseverance of Italian Assistant Producer Paola Desiderio eventually paid off, and the team obtained at least some of the consents they needed to proceed. With scientists converging from all over the world, a remarkable scientific investigation was able to go ahead.
